EMCUR® Nasal Douche
EMCUR® - an innovative therapy for intensive, gentle cleansing of the nose. A nasal douche designed to cleanse the nasal passages and the sinuses without the need for drugs or medicines. It uses a gentle but effective salt based isotonic saline solution. Recommended - this is one product we wouldn't be without during the hay fever season.
The Emcur® Nasal Douche is a certified medical device which anyone can use themselves to carry out nasal irrigations.
The device is made from a flexible polymer and has a volume of 250 ml.

The naturally occurring Emcur® Nasal Cleansing Salt is a salt mixture obtained through gentle evaporation of the thermal springs of the Ems spa in Germany. These arise from the source in the Ems mountains saddle about 73 metres deep below the earth's surface and on emerging they have a temperature of around 580C (1370F).
To obtain 1 gram of salt, 350 ml of thermal water must be evaporated - a costly effort, which can only be justified on the basis of the exceptional composition and extraordinary healing quality of these minerals. Ear Nose and Throat Consultants recognise this and are recommending the EMCUR® Nasal Cleansing Salt regularly to their patients.
EMCUR® Nasal Cleansing Salt is in its composition considerably more complex than sodium chloride (cooking or common salt) and sea salt, as it contains numerous ions which are important for the vital processes of human cells.
The high concentration of bicarbonate results in an alkaline state (pH 7 - 8), in contrast to the acid to neutral state of common salt (pH 6 - 7).
Magnesium, calcium and potassium have decongestant properties.
Sulphur plays a part in anti-allergic defence mechanism.
EMCUR® Nasal Cleansing Salt is carefully refined and its purity achieves the most beneficial effects, which will not be achieved by using common salt, as the latter contains harmful additives (anti-caking agents). 'Home made' solutions can have a too low or too high concentration and as well as being uncomfortable to use, could cause damage to the lining of the nose - the mucous membrane.
Nasal cleansings with solutions made from the Ems salt have been used successfully in Germany for more than 18 years for the treatment and management of sinonasal diseases and diseases of the upper respiratory tract.
We recommend using only EMCUR® Nasal Cleansing Salt with the EMCUR® Nasal Douche, as each sachet is exactly measured to the volume of the douche.
Every EMCUR® Douche is supplied with four sachets of EMCUR® Salts - enough for four treatments. Boxes of 30 Emcur Salt sachets are available separately - enough for a month of daily treatments.
Daily nasal irrigation should be part of your everyday routine, just like brushing your teeth.
How to use the Nasal Douche:
- Make sure the valve is closed (place spout in the horizontal position) when filling the nasal douche with lukewarm water.
- Add one sachet of Emcur® Nasal Irrigating Salt and mix the solution by gently shaking until the salt is dissolved.
- Open the valve by pushing the spout upward with the nozzle attached. Keep your finger over the hole in the top liduntil you are ready to release the liquid.
- Insert the nozzle into one nostril and open your mouth. The Emcur® solution will flow quite easily up into one nostril and down out of the other.
Important:
Open your mouth wide while irrigating your nose. The soft palate will then close and prevent the water from running down your throat.
The frequency of nasal irrigation can be carried out as required; 1-3 times per day is recommended.
Cleaning the nasal douche
After each use, rinse the Emcur® Nasal Douche with warm water. For drying it is best to hang it upside down in the wall bracket supplied with the douche.
