A castor oil pack is an external application of castor oil. You place the oil soaked cloth onto the skin in order to encourage circulation and to promote the healing of the tissues and organs underneath the skin. It is has been used successfully to improve liver function, relieve pain, reduce inflammation and to improve digestion.
The casto oil pack assists blood flow to the area, which is why the packs have been found to be so successful when used to assist natural detox and even weight loss regimes.
To perform a traditional castor oil pack you will need a bottle of castor oil and packing fabric - pure cotton packing fabric. Please ask your Therapist for details and check the suitability of the product prior to using it.
Take one piece of packing fabric and fold it into 3. Soak the fabric in enough oil to make it wet but not drippy, squeeze excess out if necessary. Apply the cloth to the chosen area of the body, always packing the liver first.
This oil can be messy and is difficult to remove from fabric (like clothing or furniture) once it has seeped into it. You can help prevent this by wrapping cling film over the pack once it is place. Applying gentle heat to the pack will help - maybe a hot water bottle that has been wrapped in a towel for example. You can leave the pack in place for up to an hour.
The cloths come in a plastic bag which you can use to store the saturated cloth once you have finished the pack. Store it in the fridge as the cloth can be used up to 8 times, you just need to apply extra oil as needed.
